The NBA will put a live-game link on every TikTok post that mentions #NBA this season and is adding a play-by-play hub called Game Pulse and an AI assistant named AskNBA to its app, the league announced on Monday, October 19, one day before the 2026-27 season opens.

The package is aimed at a problem fans know well: finding where a game is actually on. With national games now split across several networks and streaming services, the league is trying to make every highlight, search result and social post a doorway to the live broadcast.

Tap to Watch spreads to TikTok, X and your calendar

Tap to Watch, the league’s shortcut from content to the telecast, grows in three directions. On TikTok, the links will sit on any post tagged #NBA and on clips from the hundreds of creators the league has cleared to use game highlights this season. On X, a custom NBA Gametime timeline will pair live scores, highlights and conversation with a pointer to where each game is airing.

Google again carries the links in its search result boxes and on its new Sportscaster platform, and the league is offering a downloadable schedule that drops every game into a phone or desktop calendar, each entry pointing to the broadcast that carries it. The links still cover national, local, international and League Pass telecasts through the NBA App, NBA.com and team platforms.

Game Pulse, AskNBA and new tracking numbers

Inside the NBA App, Game Pulse is a live view built around a court graphic, with highlights, milestones, shot charts and player stats split by quarter. Former players Gary Payton, Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer and Muggsy Bogues will add commentary during the season, along with creators such as Lethal Shooter, Kris London and Jenna Bandy. The app will also stream players’ warm-ups before each night’s games.

AskNBA lets fans type questions about games, players and trends and get answers drawn from official league data, including the new in-game advanced numbers. Those numbers come from NBA Inside the Game, a tracking-and-AI project with AWS. Two headline additions: Handle Score, which grades every dribble move by style and effectiveness, and a zone defense model that measures how often each team plays zone and how well it works. A companion feature, NBA Blueprint, will generate a pregame preview and a postgame report for every game.

Chris Benyarko, who runs the league’s direct-to-consumer products, said the goal is to “bring fans closer to the game” across the platforms they already use.

League Pass changes

Subscribers get three upgrades. Auto-Play Next jumps to a suggested game when the one being watched ends. Multiview Focus Mode makes one game the main screen with up to three others alongside it, and a personalized Multiview card builds a four-game grid from the teams a user follows. The app is also adding AI-assisted navigation for scores, schedules and standings.

What comes next

The features arrive with the season on Tuesday, October 20. Opening night starts with the Boston Celtics at the Detroit Pistons at 3 p.m. ET (Game Center), followed by the Philadelphia 76ers at the New York Knicks (Game Center) and the Oklahoma City Thunder at the San Antonio Spurs (Game Center). The full first week is in our opening week schedule.
