Luke Kennard left Wednesday night’s preseason rematch against the San Antonio Spurs early with an apparent left knee injury, Bright Side of the Sun and Arizona Sports reported. The non-contact injury ended the veteran guard’s night early; the Suns had not given an update on his status as of late Wednesday.

Short-handed Suns lose another body

Kennard was one of the few regulars available to coach Jordan Ott on Wednesday, with Devin Booker, Jalen Green, Miles Bridges, Dillon Brooks, Collin Gillespie and Oso Ighodaro all held out of the rematch in San Antonio. Bridges is working back from a right ankle tweak, and center Mark Williams remains out with a left shoulder injury.

The 29-year-old signed a two-year deal with Phoenix in free agency and had been one of the Suns’ preseason standouts, scoring a game-high 20 points with four three-pointers in Saturday’s 102-98 win over the Spurs.

What comes next

The Suns close their preseason schedule Friday at home against the Utah Jazz, their last chance to evaluate the roster before the regular-season opener next week. Any update on Kennard’s knee is expected before then.
