Tristan Vukcevic will have his left hip injury reassessed in approximately four weeks, leaving the Washington Wizards without a firm date for his return to games as training camp gets underway.

The Wizards announced Thursday that the forward-center has a left hip impingement. He will continue rehabilitation and take part in a limited portion of camp, rather than participate fully.

A checkpoint, not a return date

Four weeks from the October 1 announcement falls around October 29. That is a useful marker for the next assessment, not a promise that Vukcevic will be cleared to play that day.

The distinction matters for Washington’s early-season planning: the team can leave room for his eventual return without assuming that his camp availability or game workload will change on a fixed schedule. Any more precise timetable will need a further update.

What it means for the frontcourt

Josh Robbins identified Alex Sarr and Anthony Davis as projected starters, with Deandre Ayton likely to be the first big man off the bench. He also noted that Vukcevic’s absence could give rookie Felix Okpara more repetitions in camp. Those are rotation projections, not a newly announced starting lineup.

Vukcevic played 49 games last season, including 12 starts, averaging 9.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 13.7 minutes.

For Okpara, who is on a two-way contract, extra practice and preseason opportunities would be a chance to earn trust. They would not automatically change his contract or guarantee regular-season minutes. Our two-way contract guide explains the separate limits on NBA availability and postseason eligibility.
