The Heat were still down 10 with about four and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter before a 9-0 run. Adebayo’s pull-up jumper gave Miami its first lead of the second half with 1:53 left, and Garland answered with a layup for a one-point Clippers lead. Thompson missed an open corner three on the next possession, and Adebayo missed a 12-footer at the regulation buzzer with 2.7 seconds left to send it to overtime.
Darius Garland hit a three to put the Clippers up three early in overtime. Then Antetokounmpo blocked a Clippers layup attempt from behind, and the possession ended with a Thompson three to tie it at 112 with 2:12 left.

Garland scored the next four points to make it 116-112 with 1:19 left, and Adebayo cut it to 116-114 with a fadeaway with 1:04 to go. After a Clippers miss and a foul, Miami had the ball with 3.3 seconds left, ran an inbounds play out of a timeout, and Thompson hit the winner from about 24 feet. The Clippers, with no timeouts left, could only heave a shot at the buzzer.
Garland had 26 points and seven assists for the Clippers, who have lost seven straight since winning their opener on Oct. 21 and are 1-7.
Thompson played 13 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, and Miami plays there on Thursday night to finish its back-to-back. After the game Thompson looked ahead to it: “Hopefully I can continue the same flow cause I made a lot of buckets in that building. And it’s fun to beat up on old friends.”
