The Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks have held exploratory talks with each other about a potential trade, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

The framework discussed would have the Lakers attach second-round draft capital to move off Dalton Knecht’s contract, with Milwaukee sending big man Jericho Sims to Los Angeles. The Bucks would then waive Knecht in that scenario, Fischer reports.

There is some pessimism about the deal actually going through, per the same report. If no trade materializes ahead of Monday’s deadline to set regular season rosters, Los Angeles might simply waive Knecht itself.

Milwaukee has also considered trades involving Caris LeVert and Kevin Porter Jr. as it navigates its own roster crunch. The Bucks would like to retain Pete Nance and are concerned another team could claim him if they waive his non-guaranteed salary and try to bring him back on a two-way contract.

Both clubs must trim to 15 standard contracts by Monday evening.
