The Miami Heat beat the Brooklyn Nets 144-128 at Kaseya Center on Wednesday, October 14, and Giannis Antetokounmpo came within one assist of a triple-double in only 24 minutes. He finished with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting, 15 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 blocks in front of 19,600 fans.

Miami led for almost the whole night. Brooklyn was in front for only a sliver of the first quarter, the Heat took a 69-66 lead into halftime, and a 43-point third quarter pushed the gap to 112-103. The lead peaked at 17.

How Miami won it

The Heat lived at the rim. They scored 62 points in the paint to Brooklyn’s 38, shot 55-of-93 (59 percent) from the floor, won the boards 50-36 and piled up 32 assists. Eighteen fast-break points came off a defense that also blocked seven shots.

The scoring was spread across the roster. Andrew Wiggins had 19 points and 6 rebounds, Tim Hardaway Jr. added 14, and Davion Mitchell and Ryan Conwell scored 13 each. Conwell hit 3 of his 4 threes and was a game-high plus-23. Klay Thompson and Bobby Portis both had 12, Nick Richards scored 11 on 4-of-5 shooting, Simone Fontecchio made 3 of 4 from deep for 11, and Nikola Jovic handed out 8 assists.

Brooklyn’s side

Michael Porter Jr. led the Nets with 27 points in 27 minutes, hitting 9 of 17 shots and 4 of 8 threes. Egor Demin made 4 of 7 threes for 17 points. Julius Randle finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, Moritz Wagner scored 15 on 6-of-7 shooting with a perfect 3-for-3 from deep, and Mikel Brown Jr. had 15 off the bench. Nolan Traore added 12 points and 5 assists.

Brooklyn forced 16 turnovers, recorded 13 steals and went 27-of-32 at the line, but it could not keep Miami out of the lane. Keon Ellis went 0-for-7 in 24 minutes.

What’s next

The Heat visit the Orlando Magic on Friday, October 16 (preseason, game preview). This was the last game on Brooklyn’s preseason schedule.
