NBA injury updates: Brandon Miller exits with right groin soreness, Jarrett Allen ruled out and Charles Lee on Knueppel’s timeline

Brandon Miller left Friday's loss to Boston with right groin soreness and will be evaluated over the weekend, Jarrett Allen was ruled out against Philadelphia with a right knee contusion, and Charles Lee said the Hornets still need more information on Kon Knueppel's hamstring.

Friday night’s tip-time and postgame injury news flipped the story from the overnight report. Brandon Miller left Charlotte’s NBA Cup loss to Boston with right groin soreness and will be evaluated over the weekend, Jarrett Allen was ruled out against Philadelphia with the right knee contusion that had him questionable all day, and Charles Lee said the Hornets still need more information before they can put a timeline on Kon Knueppel‘s left hamstring strain.

Miller: right groin soreness, out for the night, more news Monday

Miller began limping in the second quarter at Spectrum Center, asked out after a couple of plays and did not return. He finished with 8 points in about 14 minutes in the 119-80 loss. The Hornets said it was right groin soreness. Lee said the team will evaluate him over the weekend and expects to know more Monday, with Charlotte’s next game at Cleveland on Monday night.

Lee described what he saw after the game:

Charlotte was already thin before tip. Moussa Diabaté (right quadriceps tendinopathy) and Dennis Schröder (left thigh soreness) were downgraded from questionable to out in the afternoon, and Knueppel and Grant Williams remained out with hamstring strains.

Allen: right knee contusion, ruled out vs. Philadelphia

Cleveland moved Allen from questionable to out before the 7:30 p.m. ET tip against the 76ers, his first miss of the season after the knee-to-knee collision in Oklahoma City on Wednesday. Peyton Watson (right hamstring injury management) and Tyrese Proctor (left ankle sprain) were upgraded to available and both played. The Cavaliers had not yet filed Saturday’s list for the home game against the Knicks on the overnight Saturday report.

Chris Fedor noted the change before tip:

Knueppel: Lee still gathering information on the hamstring

Before Friday’s tip, Lee said it would take “a little bit of time” for the performance staff to gather everything on Knueppel’s left hamstring strain and that he would not yet call it day-to-day or week-to-week. Rod Boone’s read after talking to Lee was that it sounds like more than a few days — or even a week — before Knueppel can go. Friday’s official report still listed him out, with no new return window posted.

Elsewhere on Friday’s tip lists and Saturday’s overnight report

Scottie Barnes was ruled out against Milwaukee with a left groin strain after sitting as questionable with adductor trouble earlier in the day, and Immanuel Quickley (hamstring) also went out. Anthony Davis (right ankle sprain) and Jalen Johnson (left ankle sprain) were each downgraded from questionable to out for the Hawks-Wizards Cup game — we had already tracked Davis separately. Adem Bona moved from doubtful to out with a cervical spine sprain.

On Saturday’s overnight filing, Josh Hart is out at Cleveland with right ankle soreness and Draymond Green is questionable at Orlando with an elbow issue. Vít Krejčí remains out with the left ankle fracture and no new surgery decision or official return window from Portland. Jalen Smith is still day-to-day targeting Sunday’s Bulls game, with no Sunday list posted yet. Kawhi Leonard is unchanged at out ahead of the mid-November re-evaluation window.
