Donovan Mitchell discussed renewing his Adidas partnership in an interview with Ashley Nicole Moss. The agreement was intended to carry his D.O.N. signature line through a tenth model and included continued educational support for students at his former school, Greenwich Country Day. The tenth model was a future milestone, not an announcement that it was already on sale.
Mitchell’s 2016–17 sophomore season showed why his college development deserves attention beyond the eventual first-round selection. He made the All-ACC First Team and the conference’s All-Defensive Team, with 70 steals across 34 games. His offense also expanded: he made 80 three-pointers that season after making 18 as a freshman.
A January scoring burst supplied a concrete example. He scored 29 points at Pittsburgh on January 24, 2017, then 28 against NC State on January 29. Across those two games he made 12 of 18 three-point attempts. That stretch captures the shooting progress behind his larger role, while the defensive recognition shows that his prospect profile was broader than scoring alone.
In Utah’s 2018 first-round clincher against Oklahoma City, Mitchell scored 38 points, including 22 in the third quarter. Utah won 96–91 to take the series 4–2.
With the Cleveland Cavaliers, another defining performance arrived on January 2, 2023. He scored 71 points and added 11 assists and eight rebounds in a 145–134 overtime win over Chicago. It set a Cleveland single-game scoring record at the time and made him the first NBA player with at least 70 points and 10 assists in one game.
Those games highlight different responsibilities: sustaining a scoring run in a playoff elimination game, then combining extraordinary individual production with double-digit assists. Neither performance should be mistaken for a typical night, but both help explain the scale of the offensive role he grew into.
