The Phoenix Suns are converting Duop Reath’s Exhibit 10 contract to a two-way deal, Michael Scotto confirmed on Monday, October 19, completing a two-way shuffle that also saw forward CJ Huntley waived alongside Koby Brea. The 30-year-old center from South Sudan has career averages of 6.2 points and 2.6 rebounds in 146 regular-season games and averaged 5.5 points in four preseason appearances for Phoenix. He had season-ending foot surgery in January and was traded to and waived by the Hawks in February.

Duop Reath’s contract situation could change before opening night. John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 suggested the Suns could convert Reath’s Exhibit 10 contract to a two-way deal. The 30-year-old remains two-way eligible because he has only three years of NBA experience, and head coach Jordan Ott said this week that Reath’s floor-spacing gives the Suns a different look at center while still asking him to crash the glass and pressure the ball.

With Mark Williams still recovering from shoulder surgery, the Suns are sorting out a third big behind Oso Ighodaro and Khaman Maluach, and coach Jordan Ott framed Duop Reath as a different piece in that mix. Ott says Phoenix will change things to Reath’s strengths while asking him to crash and pressure the basketball.
