Updated October 4, 2026: Added the reported team-option detail and Toronto’s preseason-opening result.

The Toronto Raptors have finalized Jamal Shead’s contract extension, Josh Lewenberg reported Thursday after the team issued a statement. The confirmation follows the earlier report of a three-year, $24 million agreement.

Shams Charania reported the length and value of the deal, citing Shead’s agent, KJ Smith. Those reported terms keep the guard under contract through the 2029-30 season and amount to an average of $8 million per extension year.

In the statement shared by Lewenberg, general manager Bobby Webster praised Shead’s leadership and work ethic and said the organization wanted him to remain part of its future. The update moves the story from an agreement reported by the player’s representative to a finalized extension.

What changes, and what does not

The new years follow the 2026-27 season, for which Toronto had already exercised Shead’s option in June. The reported $8 million average describes the extension, not a newly announced salary for the coming season.

Michael Scotto reported on October 1 that the third year of the extension includes a team option. With the extension running through 2029-30, that final season is therefore option-dependent.

A regular presence in Toronto’s backcourt

Shead appeared in all 82 regular-season games in 2025-26, making 12 starts. He averaged 6.6 points, 5.4 assists and 1.7 rebounds in 22.6 minutes per game, giving Toronto a consistent option behind Immanuel Quickley.

The 24-year-old joined the Raptors after being selected out of Houston in the second round of the 2024 draft. The extension gives Toronto longer-term certainty around a guard who has already handled both reserve minutes and starts.

Toronto opened its preseason with a 129-105 loss to Miami in Quebec City on October 3. Shead enters his third NBA season with the extension finalized.
