The Toronto Raptors are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Toronto. The Raptors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at Scotiabank Arena, which it shares with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team was founded in 1995 as part of the NBA's expansion into Canada, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. The Raptors have been the only Canadian team in the league since the 2001–02 season, when the Grizzlies moved from Vancouver to Memphis, Tennessee.
As with most expansion teams, the Raptors struggled in their early years, but after the acquisition of Vince Carter through a draft-day trade in 1998, the franchise set league-attendance records and made the NBA playoffs in 2000, 2001, and 2002. Carter was instrumental in leading the team to their first playoff series win in 2001, where they advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals. During the 2002–03 and 2003–04 seasons, they failed to make progress, and Carter was traded in 2004 to the New Jersey Nets.
After Carter left, Chris Bosh emerged as the team leader. For the 2006–07 season, Bryan Colangelo was appointed as general manager, and through a combination of Bosh, 2006 first overall draft pick Andrea Bargnani, and a revamp of the roster, the Raptors qualified for their first playoff berth in five years, capturing the Atlantic Division title. In the 2007–08 season, they also advanced to the playoffs but failed to reach the postseason in each of the next five seasons. Colangelo overhauled the team's roster for the 2009–10 season in a bid to persuade pending free agent Bosh to stay, but Bosh departed to sign with the Miami Heat in July 2010, ushering in yet another era of rebuilding for the Raptors.

2018-19.
Verified champion records through 2025-26. Earlier team names and source records appear in the archive.
Toronto entered the NBA in 1995 and has become a major point of connection between the league and Canadian basketball. The Raptors’ 2019 championship was a landmark for the franchise and its supporters. Its fan culture reaches far beyond Toronto, reflecting the team’s place in a wider national basketball community.
Toronto’s first NBA game was a 94–79 win over New Jersey at SkyDome on November 3, 1995.
The move to the present arena came later: its first Raptors game was against Vancouver on February 21, 1999, one day after the building’s opening hockey game. Air Canada Centre and Scotiabank Arena are two names for this same building. The Air Canada name ran from February 1999 through June 2018; Scotiabank naming began in July 2018. That distinction helps when matching an old game report to a modern venue map. The arena also retains the east and south walls of the former Canada Post Delivery Building.
A conference-finals appearance, a conference title and an NBA championship mark different stages of the playoffs:
In that last game, Kyle Lowry and Pascal Siakam each scored 26 points; Kawhi Leonard earned Finals MVP.
Union Station is the useful transit reference point: the arena’s Galleria connects through PATH to Union, GO and TTC services. The venue lists general game gates opening one hour before tip-off, with separate arrangements for premium access. Check the event’s instructions before travelling and allow time for security. Its official visitor FAQ also links the current bag policy and warns that bag-check space is limited. Confirm the actual venue in the Raptors schedule, especially for preseason games; a home designation alone is not an address.
Updated October 6, 2026. Toronto signed forward Tyson Degenhart and waived guard Andre Jackson Jr. on October 5.
Degenhart returns after a season with Raptors 905, where he averaged 8.5 points, three rebounds and 1.3 assists in 21 minutes across 50 games. Toronto did not disclose financial terms. Jackson had joined the Raptors after three seasons with Milwaukee.
These are completed transactions, not a promise of an opening-night role for Degenhart. Preseason personnel moves and the eventual regular-season rotation are separate decisions. See the Raptors schedule for upcoming games.
Start with the official team schedule and roster to understand the current group. Then compare the team’s pace, shot selection, and defensive approach with its opponents. The meaning of a result changes with the matchup, the available lineup, and the season context.
Use the official team website for current news, roster details, schedules, and venue information. Arena naming and event arrangements can change; verify those details before planning a visit. Use the official team ticket links to plan your visit.
