The Philadelphia 76ers placed four players on waivers Saturday, cutting forwards Dillon Jones and Cris Carroll and guards Jameer Nelson Jr. and Taye Fields, according to reporter Matt Murphy.

The moves were expected, with all four on non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contracts. Philadelphia is operating too close to its first-apron hard cap to carry a 15th man, so the team will open the season with 14 players on standard contracts.

Carroll and Fields, who signed only on Friday, did not appear in the preseason. Jones and Nelson each played in four games. Jones, a former first-round pick who was part of the Knicks’ championship team last season, averaged 4.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in 13.8 minutes per game this month, while Nelson put up 7.3 points per game on 50 percent shooting in 12.4 minutes.

All four are likely to open the season with the Delaware Blue Coats, the Sixers’ G League affiliate. Their Exhibit 10 deals make them eligible for bonuses of up to $91,000 each if they spend at least 60 days in the G League.

With Tacko Fall also converted to a two-way contract Saturday, Philadelphia now carries a 17-man roster – 14 standard contracts and three two-way players – and appears set for opening night.
