Victor Wembanyama says he will not promote sports betting companies, stating his position after the San Antonio Spurs’ practice on Thursday, October 1.

Reporter Mike Finger said he asked Wembanyama whether he would consider that kind of endorsement. Finger reported the response: “Absolutely not. I will never do that.”

Wembanyama also expressed disappointment at seeing players promote betting, according to Finger’s account. That was his stated view of the practice; he did not identify another player by name.

A position on future endorsements

The question concerned whether Wembanyama would consider promoting a betting company. His answer should not be read as an announcement that he cancelled a contract or rejected a particular disclosed offer.

Matt Guzman’s firsthand account places the exchange during Day 3 of Spurs training camp in San Antonio on October 1. It identifies the session as Wembanyama’s first media availability since Monday.
