The Dallas Mavericks posted a John Poulakidas individual highlight package from Wednesday’s 101-97 preseason loss to the New Orleans Pelicans at American Airlines Center. The clip runs just over a minute and isolates Poulakidas’ perimeter scoring in a tight home loss.

Watch the highlights

What stands out in the reel

Poulakidas finished with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-8 from three, plus three rebounds and a block in 26 minutes. He tied Tobi Lawal for the Mavericks’ scoring lead and was plus-eight. Sergio de Larrea added 10 points and six assists in 30 minutes, and Seth Lundy scored 13. On the New Orleans side, Jeremiah Fears led with 16 points and five assists, and Derik Queen grabbed 11 rebounds.

How the game unfolded

New Orleans led 24-18 after one and 56-45 at the half before Dallas cut into the lead. The Mavericks outscored the Pelicans 34-26 in the fourth to make the final four points, but they never took the lead after the opening quarter. Poulakidas’ threes in those stretches are the easiest things to spot in this short cut.

Why this reel

With Poulakidas matching Lawal for the team lead on efficient three-point shooting, this is the quickest official look at how Dallas’ young wing scored in a close preseason loss at home.
