The Dallas Mavericks posted their official highlight package from Wednesday’s 101-97 preseason loss to the New Orleans Pelicans at American Airlines Center. The reel runs just over two minutes and covers the game from Dallas’ side, including the Mavericks’ fourth-quarter push that nearly erased a double-digit deficit.

Watch the highlights

What stands out in the reel

Tobi Lawal and John Poulakidas each scored 16 for Dallas, with Poulakidas going 4-of-8 from three and Lawal a perfect 8-of-8 at the line. Sergio de Larrea finished with 10 points, four rebounds and six assists in 30 minutes. Seth Lundy added 13 points. On the New Orleans side, Jeremiah Fears led with 16 points and five assists, Zion Williamson went a perfect 5-of-5 for 10 points in 18 minutes, and Derik Queen grabbed 11 rebounds.

How the game unfolded

New Orleans led 24-18 after one and 56-45 at the half. Dallas trimmed it in the third and then outscored the Pelicans 34-26 in the fourth, but New Orleans’ early cushion held. The Mavericks’ late run made the final four points; they never quite took the lead after the first quarter.

Why this reel

Lawal’s athleticism, Poulakidas’ shooting and de Larrea’s playmaking are the clearest Dallas takeaways. This is the best official Mavericks package from a tight preseason loss at home.
