What to watch for in the reel

Denver’s starters played only short stints and were all on the plus side of the ledger. Jamal Murray was the sharpest of them, with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 2-of-3 from three in 17 minutes. Nikola Jokić scored only five points but handed out seven assists and grabbed six rebounds in 17 minutes, and Aaron Gordon added eight points and six rebounds, four of them on the offensive glass.

The bench gave Denver its scoring. Trevon Brazile led all scorers with 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-4 from deep, and Cam Whitmore added 17. DaRon Holmes II went 3-of-4 for eight points in 12 minutes, and Tyus Jones dished seven assists without scoring. Julian Strawther hit three threes for 11 points before leaving with a left knee injury.

Where the game turned

The teams were tied 24-24 after one quarter, and the Clippers led 58-55 at the half. Los Angeles broke it open with a 38-26 third quarter. The Clippers shot 15-of-33 from three and 17-of-20 at the line, while Denver went 17-of-30 on free throws and gave up 27 points off its turnovers.

Rui Hachimura led the Clippers with 16 points, and Baba Miller scored 15 on 5-of-6 shooting off the bench with a team-best plus-14. Derrick Jones Jr. and Darius Garland each scored 14, with Garland adding seven assists. Rookie Keaton Wagler started and finished with 12 points, four assists and a plus-11 in 28 minutes.

With the starters on short minutes, most of the second half belonged to the reserves. This reel is the quickest way to see how Denver’s second unit held up against a deep Clippers rotation.
