Wednesday NBA injury report: Max Christie out, Santi Aldama nears his Mavericks debut, Kawhi Leonard’s knee progresses and Embiid, Brown and Kyrie Irving are off the lists

Dallas's Max Christie is out with a hip injury and Santi Aldama is questionable for his debut, Toronto says Kawhi Leonard has started the return-to-play process, and Embiid, Brown and Irving are off Wednesday's lists.

Max Christie is out for Dallas at San Antonio with a right hip injury, Santi Aldama is questionable and close to his Mavericks debut, and Toronto says Kawhi Leonard‘s left knee is responding to treatment. The NBA’s official report for Wednesday’s 14 games, as updated just after midnight Eastern, also has Philadelphia and Dallas arriving with Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown and Kyrie Irving off their lists, and Chicago’s Nic Claxton questionable with a hamstring strain. Teams can still change their listings before tipoff.

Dallas: Christie out, Aldama questionable, Irving off the list

Max Christie is out with right hip soreness and tightness, which settles the question left open after he left Monday’s loss to Sacramento in the second half. Our Tuesday report had Dusty May saying Dallas would evaluate him again “in the next couple days.” Kyrie Irving, who was listed for left knee injury management on Monday, does not appear on Dallas’s list at all, which means no designation.

Aldama is the one to watch. Marc Stein reported that the Mavericks upgraded him to questionable for the trip to San Antonio as he “at last nears his Dallas debut” after right knee surgery last spring.

Dereck Lively II (right foot surgery), Tarik Biberovic (right heel bursitis) and Sergio de Larrea (right knee sprain) are also out, and Caleb Martin is available with a right thumb splint. San Antonio will be without Tobias Harris (left calf strain) and Jayden Quaintance (right knee surgery).

Kawhi Leonard begins the return-to-play process

The Raptors said Leonard has completed treatment for swelling in his left knee and has started the return-to-play process, with his progress to be updated in one week. He remains out for Wednesday’s game at Denver, where Toronto also lists Jakob Poeltl as questionable with left shoulder bursitis, and Nate Bittle out with a right avulsion fracture. Denver has Alpha Diallo (right wrist sprain) and Cameron Johnson (lower body injury management) probable, while Spencer Jones (bilateral hamstring injury management) and Julian Strawther (left knee sprain) are out.

Pacers at Memphis: three starters questionable

Indiana’s own list for the game at Memphis has Ivica Zubac (left ankle sprain), Kelly Oubre Jr. (left calf contusion) and Obi Toppin (lumbar sprain) all questionable. Tyrese Haliburton (left hamstring strain), T.J. McConnell (right hamstring strain), Ben Sheppard (left meniscus surgery) and Johnny Furphy (right ACL repair) are out.

Memphis lists Scotty Pippen Jr. as out with a lumbar disc herniation and Quinten Post as questionable with a right ankle sprain.

76ers at Pistons, Hornets at Nets and Bulls at Knicks

  • 76ers at Pistons: Embiid and Brown are not listed. Philadelphia’s only entries are Dominick Barlow (low back stress reaction) and Ariel Hukporti (right Achilles tendon rupture or tear), both out. Detroit has Jalen Duren (right hamstring strain) and Isaiah Joe (right hip contusion) out. Nick Nurse said Monday that Embiid’s foot is being managed, so his minutes are still worth watching.
  • Hornets at Nets: Kon Knueppel (left hamstring strain) and Coby White (left calf injury management) are both probable, and Grant Williams (right hamstring strain) is out. Brooklyn is without Egor Demin (right leg bone bruise). We covered Knueppel’s probable status on Tuesday.
  • Bulls at Knicks: Claxton is questionable with a left hamstring strain and Jalen Smith is probable with a left finger sprain. New York lists Josh Hart as questionable with right ankle soreness.

Thunder, Celtics, Heat and the rest of the slate

  • Cavaliers at Thunder: Alex Caruso is not on Oklahoma City’s list after Tuesday’s ankle questions, while Jaylin Williams is questionable with low back spasms. Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Cason Wallace, Thomas Sorber and Nikola Topic remain out. Cleveland’s Jaylon Tyson is out with a right ankle sprain.
  • Bucks at Celtics: Jayson Tatum is questionable for rest and Payton Pritchard with a right shoulder contusion, and Devin Carter is out with an illness. Details are in our earlier report.
  • Heat at Clippers: Giannis Antetokounmpo is probable with a right wrist sprain, Myron Gardner is questionable and Dru Smith is available with a facial laceration. Our report on Antetokounmpo has the details.
  • Hawks at Wizards: Alex Sarr (left knee soreness) and Anthony Gill (low back spasms) are both questionable after being ruled out on Monday. Atlanta lists Jalen Johnson as questionable with a left ankle sprain and Mouhamed Gueye out with a left foot fracture.
  • Jazz at Pelicans: Jaren Jackson Jr. (right MCL tear) and Jusuf Nurkic (right second plantar plate tear) are out for Utah. New Orleans has Yves Missi out with a left knee bone bruise and Trey Murphy III and Jordan Poole probable.
  • Timberwolves at Rockets: Anthony Edwards (right knee arthroscopy) and Donte DiVincenzo (right Achilles repair) are out. Houston’s Steven Adams is out with a right soleus strain and Clint Capela is questionable with a right ankle sprain.
  • Trail Blazers at Suns: Ja Morant (left hamstring strain) and Shaedon Sharpe (right meniscus surgery) are out. Phoenix lists Jordan Goodwin as questionable with right calf soreness, and Rasheer Fleming questionable with a left ankle sprain.
  • Lakers at Kings: Adou Thiero is out for left knee injury management, and Walker Kessler is available with a left finger splint. Sacramento’s Ben Simmons (right Achilles repair) and Keegan Murray (left ankle capsulitis) are out, and Precious Achiuwa is probable.

What to watch

Teams will update their listings through Wednesday, and the Thursday games, Orlando at Phoenix and Miami at Golden State, had not been filed yet. Next up are Aldama’s status in San Antonio, Knueppel’s debut in Brooklyn and whether Embiid plays a heavy load in Detroit. The injuries page tracks every team’s latest list.
