The Los Angeles Lakers signed guard Jahmir Young to an Exhibit 10 contract ahead of Friday’s preseason finale, the team announced Wednesday night. In a corresponding move, Los Angeles waived forward Cole Swider.

Dave McMenamin and Jovan Buha both reported the signing, citing the club. Swider’s waiver had already shown up on the league’s October 14 transaction list; Young’s Exhibit 10 deal fills the open camp spot and keeps the Lakers at the 21-player preseason maximum for the last exhibition.

Who is Jahmir Young?

Young, listed at 6-foot-1 and about 185 pounds, went undrafted out of Maryland in 2024. He spent 2025-26 with Miami’s organization, including a stretch on a two-way deal that was later converted to a standard contract in April. With the Sioux Falls Skyforce he averaged about 26 points, 8.9 assists and 4.6 rebounds in the G League regular season, earned All-NBA G League Second Team honors and was named G League Player of the Month for January.

Miami declined to tender him a qualifying offer in late June, making him an unrestricted free agent. On September 29 the Coachella Valley Lakers acquired his G League returning-player rights from Sioux Falls in exchange for the rights to center Kylor Kelley and a 2027 G League first-round pick. Wednesday’s Exhibit 10 puts him on the NBA roster for the final preseason game rather than only on the affiliate’s books.

What the Swider corresponding move means

Swider, a 6-foot-8 forward, had been in Lakers camp on a non-guaranteed deal after previous NBA stints with Los Angeles, Miami, Detroit and Toronto. He appeared in 35 career regular-season games. Cutting him frees the 21st camp slot for Young without changing the guaranteed core.

Exhibit 10 deals are the usual late-camp structure. A player who is waived before opening night and then spends at least 60 days with the team’s G League affiliate can earn a bonus of up to about $91,000 on top of his G League pay. For Los Angeles that affiliate is Coachella Valley, which already holds Young’s returning rights.

What comes next

Young is expected to be available for Friday’s preseason finale. Rosters must be set for opening night by October 19 at 5 p.m. ET, with a 15-man standard roster and three two-way slots. The most likely path remains a short look, a waiver before the regular season, and a season in the desert with Coachella Valley — unless he forces a two-way conversation in the final cuts.
