The Chicago Bulls are an American professional basketball team based in Chicago. The Bulls compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. The team was founded on January 16, 1966, and played its first game during the 1966–67 NBA season. The Bulls share their home arena with the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks, playing in the newer United Center which replaced the former Chicago Stadium.
The Bulls saw their greatest success during the 1990s when they played a major part in popularizing the NBA worldwide. They are known for having one of the NBA's greatest dynasties, winning six NBA championships between 1991 and 1998 with two separate three-peats. All six of their championship teams were led by Hall of Famers Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and coach Phil Jackson. The Bulls are the only NBA team to win multiple championships while never losing an NBA Finals series in their history. The Bulls won 72 games during the 1995–96 season, setting an NBA record that stood until the Golden State Warriors won 73 games during the 2015–16 season. The Bulls were the first team in NBA history to win 70 games or more in a single season, and the only NBA franchise to do so until the 2015–16 Warriors.
Since 1998, the Bulls have failed to regain their former success. The franchise struggled throughout the 2000s but showed promise in the early 2010s led by Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah, culminating in back-to-back seasons above.732 in 2010–11 and 2011–12. An ACL tear suffered by Rose and subsequent trades of key players triggered a rebuild, culminating in different lineups throughout the late 2010s and early 2020s. Jordan and Rose won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award while playing for the Bulls, for a total of six MVP awards. The Bulls share rivalries with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, and the New York Knicks.

Verified champion records through 2025-26. Earlier team names and source records appear in the archive.
The Bulls helped take NBA basketball to an international audience during the Michael Jordan era. Their six championships in the 1990s remain central to the franchise’s identity, but Chicago basketball also includes generations of local courts, high-school talent, and committed fans beyond those title teams.
The Bulls entered the NBA in 1966–67, playing at the International Amphitheater and reaching the playoffs in their first season. Chicago Stadium came next in the franchise’s arena story. It is a different building from the United Center, rather than an earlier name for today’s home.
The United Center held its ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 18, 1994. It houses both the Bulls and the NHL’s Blackhawks. That opening date matters when identifying old footage: Chicago’s first three championship seasons, 1991, 1992 and 1993, belong to the Chicago Stadium era; the 1996, 1997 and 1998 titles belong to the United Center era. This describes the team’s home court, not the location of every title-clinching game.
Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen connect both runs. Horace Grant, Bill Cartwright and John Paxson were part of the first championship core; Dennis Rodman, Toni Kukoč and Ron Harper helped the later group. The 1995–96 Bulls’ 72 wins refer to the regular season. Their championship required a separate playoff run, so that number should not be treated as a combined season-and-playoff total.
The arena is at 1901 West Madison Street. Its official visitor FAQ lists small personal bags up to 10 × 6 × 2 inches; backpacks are not allowed. Required medical equipment has exceptions, including screening and specific rules for oversized medical bags. Check those details before packing rather than assuming every small backpack is acceptable.
Food, drink and merchandise purchases are cashless, and re-entry is prohibited. General gates usually open 90 minutes before an event, but the game’s own listing takes priority. For a quieter space during an event, ask Guest Relations at Gate 2 about access to the sensory room. The Michael Jordan statue is inside the atrium, with public access during atrium opening hours; a statue visit and admission to a Bulls game are separate plans.
Start with the official team schedule and roster to understand the current group. Then compare the team’s pace, shot selection, and defensive approach with its opponents. The meaning of a result changes with the matchup, the available lineup, and the season context.
Use the official team website for current news, roster details, schedules, and venue information. Arena naming and event arrangements can change; verify those details before planning a visit. Use the official team ticket links to plan your visit.
