The Pacers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. The team was founded in 1967 as an original member of the American Basketball Association (ABA) and became a member of the NBA in 1976 as a result of the ABA–NBA merger. They play their home games at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The team is named after the state of Indiana's history with the Indianapolis 500's pace cars and with the harness racing industry.
The Pacers have won three championships, in 1970, 1972, and 1973, all in the ABA. They also reached the ABA Finals in 1969 and 1975, and have also appeared in the NBA Finals in 2000 and 2025. The team has also won nine division titles.
Six Hall of Fame players – Reggie Miller, Chris Mullin, Alex English, Mel Daniels, Roger Brown, and George McGinnis – played with the Pacers for multiple seasons. The franchise has multiple Hall of Fame coaches in Bobby "Slick" Leonard, Jack Ramsay, and Larry Brown. Furthermore, former Pacers inducted into international Halls of Fame include Miller and Detlef Schrempf in the FIBA Hall of Fame.

The Pacers bring Indiana’s deep basketball traditions to the NBA. The franchise won three ABA championships before joining the NBA in 1976. Reggie Miller’s shooting and playoff rivalries remain central to its national identity, while the local connection extends to the state’s high-school and college game.
Tyrese Haliburton returned to the Gainbridge Fieldhouse court at FanJam for the first time since the 2025 NBA Finals. In the 12-minute intrasquad scrimmage, he recorded eight points and four assists; new teammate Ivica Zubac had 12 points and six rebounds for the same White team.
This was a short workout against teammates, separate from the official season statistics above. Indiana’s next scheduled exhibitions are against Minnesota at Iowa State on October 7 and Atlanta at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on October 10, when the team can test its combinations against outside opponents.
Indiana began play in the American Basketball Association in 1967. The Pacers name connects the state’s harness-racing tradition with the Indianapolis 500 pace car. Under coach Bobby “Slick” Leonard, Indiana won ABA championships in 1970, 1972 and 1973 before moving into the NBA in 1976. That distinction matters when reading the franchise’s record: the three early titles were ABA championships, separate from its later NBA Finals appearances.
Reggie Miller arrived through the 1987 draft and spent all 18 of his NBA seasons with Indiana. The Pacers reached the playoffs 15 times during his tenure, including their first NBA Finals in 2000 under head coach Larry Bird. The Lakers won that series in six games. Indiana returned to the Finals in 2025 under Rick Carlisle and took Oklahoma City to a deciding seventh game before losing the series. These are useful starting points for exploring the team’s history: the ABA title years, Miller’s long run, and the return to the NBA’s championship round a generation later.
Gainbridge Fieldhouse is at 125 South Pennsylvania Street in downtown Indianapolis. Its official visitor guide lists the Virginia Avenue garage as a parking option and the Julia Carson Transit Center as a nearby bus connection. Compare those options before choosing a hotel or committing to a drive, and leave time for the walk and security screening.
As checked in October 2026, the venue is cashless and asks visitors to add mobile tickets to their phone’s wallet before arrival; ticket screenshots are not accepted. Check the event-specific instructions and the Fieldhouse A–Z guide again before leaving for the game, particularly for bag limits, permitted items and accessibility arrangements. Make sure the ticket holder can access the full group’s tickets before reaching the entrance.
Start with the official team schedule and roster to understand the current group. Then compare the team’s pace, shot selection, and defensive approach with its opponents. The meaning of a result changes with the matchup, the available lineup, and the season context.
Use the official team website for current news, roster details, schedules, and venue information. Arena naming and event arrangements can change; verify those details before planning a visit. Use the official team ticket links to plan your visit.
